Feeling old

The weather is cold, grey & the wind is gusting more than 35mph so no riding up here today. Housework beckoned but then I got sidetracked :D
I know the ponies are due their vaccines so got their passports out & realised we have had Douglas since Sept 1992 ...... that is 26 & 1/2 years :eeek::eeek::eeek::eeek::eeek: How did I miss the quarter of a century of sharing our lives with him??? Makes me feel old but very priviliged. The dear old boy (whispered quietly as he thinks he is still a 3yo tearaway) still goes out for an occassional pootle :) but roads only now as I am worried he will get too excited on the moors & stumble badly on the uneven ground, his stride is very low these days & although he can still do his amazing power walk, his trot stride is shorter & slower than in his glory days

Bless him so many lovely years with him that's wonderful.

Blowing strong here and getting worse but I went with strapping myself on to Glen as I'd promised to meet a friend this morning. He had a whale of a time bless him. X

How lovely! I've had IP from weaning but she is less than half of Douglas' age at 11 this year. Mac was delayed coming to me as a late yearling because certain parts of his anatomy remained stubbornly out of sight for a long time

I've lost count of the hundreds of horses I must have ridden, cared for, helped into the world during my earlier career - some of which I thought I had a very special connection with. However there is nothing like the bond of friendship that comes with sharing so many years with one - without getting too deep and meaningful - it transcends anything else but that is, I think, something only horse people would understand.
